This was the 4th and final module of the year long initiation which started last March.
Over the year we discovered and explored the practical applications of the 12 permaculture principles in farming, gardening and life projects. We discussed and debated the 3 ethics and their importance in guiding and structuring our enthusiasm when designing projects. We also spent time together contributing to the development of the pedagogical garden at Rovereaz agroecology farm in Lausanne. We set up and tended to the vegetable plots, designed fruit tree guild, planned raised beds, built insect hotels, foraged for wild plants, made fermented foods..the list goes on.
We shared our ideas and personal projects and developed the skills to encourage healthy communities and support open communication. During this module each participant brought along the outline of a dream, a project, a business idea that they had been working on. The diversity of the group was reflected in the diversity of the projects presented. One participant is setting up a skill sharing hub. Another is tackling excessive packaging in large supermarkets. The projects span environmental problems, social justice issues, migrant integration, free schooling, permaculture groups. Some were also personal commitments to eat better, go minimalist, self-care and much more.
The group provided a sound board for all these projects and through a number of exercises the participants were able to go deeper the reflection process to better understand why they wanted to commit to their project and how they were going to go about doing it. On the final day every one built a symbolic threshold out in the forest. A threshold provides a physical demarcation between the past and the future. When one commits to change or to take action he/she can step over the threshold to embody that decision and for it to be witnessed and celebrated by the community.
We listened to one another, ate together, laughed together, shoveled snow together :)!
And as we finish the 2016 module we prepare to welcome ou next group mid February. A whole new year and whole new cycle. I feel blessed to journey with these participants, what en exciting time to be alive!
