Last sunday I ran my first Nature Detectives Birthday party. It was such a beautiful day! At 14h the children gathered on the green tarp under the sycamore tree in the garden and I spoke to them about all the fun taht we can have when we are in nature. I had chosen one activities in particular for the day - stream raft making. The boys and girls all took part in creating their very own river rafts using sticks, corks, coloured felt and feathers.
A little forest face-paint and we were all ready to wander down to the stream to test our rafts. Though the majority of the rafts did not fare too well the children were laughing and helping each other cross the stream. There were a few who got in below their wellies and had squelching feet on the way, but smiling nonetheless!
It was wonderful to share the excitement with the children, to see them playing in the forest and thinking of creative ways to scoop their rafts back out of the stream without toppling in!
I hope to do more parties soon, as long as the parents are happy for their little ones to get muddy i think there are a hundred activities we could do to celebrate a birthday to remember.
